Open Curtain

Frequently Asked Questions

I’d like to perform one of these plays. How?

From the play’s page, select the PRODUCE THIS PLAY button. After your request is reviewed, you’ll receive an email with licensing details and an invoice.

What are the prices for royalties and scripts?

Prices vary by play and by production. Submit a production request to receive a complete breakdown of the applicable fees before you pay anything.

Can I pay by credit card, check, or purchase order?

Yes. Once your licensing request has been approved, you’ll receive an invoice. You can pay online by credit card. Business checks and purchase orders are also accepted.

How do I purchase books?

Once your production is authorized, you’ll receive access to an author-approved printable/shareable PDF of the script for use by your production. There are plans in the works to provide physical books.

May I cut dialogue or make changes to a play?

Many reasonable cuts can be approved, but changes to the script require permission.

Please contact us with the specific changes you’d like to make before rehearsing or performing the altered version. Requests to add new dialogue to the playwright’s work generally cannot be approved.

May I use a short excerpt for a forensics competition, drama festival, audition, or similar event?

Usually. Contact us with the play title, proposed excerpt, event, and any other relevant details, and we’ll let you know what permission is required.

May we record our production?

An archival video license may be added to your production license. Please review the licensing agreement for the terms and permitted uses of recordings.

Can we arrange a Q&A with the playwright?

For participating playwrights, Q&A sessions may be available as an optional addition to your production.

My organization needs a W-9. Can I get one?

Yes. A W-9 is provided during the invoicing process.

Who do I contact if I have a question about my request, invoice, or production?

Email hello@opencurtainplays.com and we’ll be happy to help.
